Learn more about what Speech Therapy has to offer
Does My Child Need Speech Therapy?
A child’s failure to reach speech and language milestones as expected may be a “red flag” indicating a speech and language development delay. Language delays include difficulties understanding what is heard or read (receptive language delays) or problems putting words together to form meaning (expressive language delays.) Difficulty with speech intelligibility may also occur including problems producing certain sounds, sequencing sounds and syllables together, or difficulty producing fluent, smooth speech.
In addition, children may have social skills delays which impact their ability to communicate effectively in social situations for everyday purposes such as making requests, having conversations, and making friends.
If your child does not reach developmental milestones on schedule or is exhibiting any of the other above characteristics, he or she should be seen by a speech pathologist or other health professional to rule out any concerns.
